MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)
A multi-million dollar Milton hotel project was formally announced Thursday, Oct 12th, 2017.
The “Grand Patrician” will replace the old Morris Memorial Hospital which has been vacant since 2009.
The project is being completely funded by Jeff Hoops and his family who are hoping to add baseball fields, a golf course, pools, even town homes on the 189 acres of land.
“I can’t wait to see the bulldozers unload, the excavators moving, people working,” said Milton Mayor Tom Canterbury.
Hoops says the project is expected to take 18-24 months to complete and is planning on getting things started in late October.
The actual building will be renovated into a 100-room hotel. The building, which was built in the 1930s, originally served as a treatment center for polio patients, including Hoops’ aunt and brother-in-law.
“I guess having this opportunity here did bring it full circle and give us an opportunity to do something really positive,” said Hoops. Hoops adds with all the amenities, including the sports fields, he hopes to see tournaments and out-of-state teams come in and bring revenue to an area he and his family have called home for 20 years.
